DIY! Refinished Night Stand

I've been looking for a night stand for our guest room for a LONG time...I've looked everywhere for a piece I could possible repaint and distress...flea markets, consignment shops, Craigslist.  And finally a couple of weekends ago I went to the Flowood flea market with my sister-in-law, Mary Allison.  I knew she had an eye for finding unique pieces so I felt confident we would find something.  And sure enough we did!

I'm guessing this night-stand used to be in a little girl's room since its pink...but the flat paint made it easy to paint right on over!  I decided to go with a bright orange:

After I painted the entire piece orange, I came back and sanded and distressed it.  Finally, I put a put a coat of wood-stain and finished it off with a coat of polyurathane!   It took a while to dry because it was so humid outside.  But it was worth the wait!

For those of you out there that would like more of a step-by-step tutorial on how to distress furniture (in more detail!) you should check out Brittany's (aka Pretty Handy Girl's) Blog.  She does a great job photographing/writing step-by-step instructions!  Thanks Brittany (btw--found you on Pinterest!)

That's it for now!  Happy Sunday!

DIY Wreath Complete and New Etsy listings!

So a few weeks ago I posted a link to a tutorial for a wreath I wanted to try to make...

Wanted to show all my followers the final result!  I am SO pleased!

SO...what do YOU think?  I had so much fun making this--My favorite part was figuring out what fabric to use for the flower on the side.  It was super easy to make--and cheap!  I got scrap fabric on sale at Hancock Fabric's store!

If you want to make a wreath like this one, check out Janet's amazing tutorial here.

Another update---my Etsy shop has been so much fun!  I have been able to be pretty consistent in listing new items and I've already sold quite a bit! So exciting:-)  I am already beginning to prepare for the holiday season---so get ready to do some Christmas shopping!

Here are a few items I've put together recently!

The charm necklace sold today, but if you are interested in any of the other pieces, check out my ETSY shop today!

One more thing...I have a new favorite scent.  Thanks to a very dear friend who introduced me to:

I know this was random, but you just have to smell the candle to understand. Love Love!

Have a great weekend ya'll!

Christmas in August

I can't believe its already been a month since school started!  I guess its a good sign if the days are flying by...must mean I actually do enjoy my students a whole lot this year.  I have some great potential in my classroom and am being inspired every day.

It felt like Christmas yesterday when I opened the kiln to see the students' finished pots.  They have just finished their pinch pot project and they turned out great!  I was also excited to see some of my finished pieces as well.  A couple of platters, a few birds, and some other pieces I worked on while teaching the students.

This was a commission piece I did for a friend...love how the glazes turned out!

This was also a commission piece...love the purple!  Never would have thought of it.

These coasters were just for fun...I love birds and wanted to try a new technique.  And guess what?!  You can buy them on my Etsy!

I didn't get a chance to photograph everything that I've done recently...but I am going to try to post more soon!  Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog!

Have a great week!
Love,

I've Been Featured!!!

Now that school's back in session and I'm starting to get back into the routine, I'm finally finding a chance to actually sit down and give a long over-due update to all my faithful blog followers...

First of all, after discovering Pinterest, I have been overwhelmed with ideas...especially for the fall season.  And of course, my involvement with Etsy lately has also been making my head spin.

Let me show you a few of my favorite finds!

On her blog, Janet gives an AWESOME tutorial for this fabulous Burlap Bubble Wreath!  Perfect for the fall, don't you think?  Check out her tutorial here!

I love the color scheme of this bedroom.  I really want to re-do our master and this is my inspiration!  Would love to find a nightstand like that!

I have a totally new appreciation for wooden pallets!  I love this idea...Ashley Ann gives a great tutorial on how to DIY on her blog.  You should check it out!

Now-- what you've all been waiting for...a project I completed not too long ago for a blogger friend:-)

I really liked out it turned out--and so did she!  (Thankfully!)  She liked it so much that she was kind enough to feature me and my work on her blog!  You can check it out here.  I really enjoyed doing business with Amanda--she is so nice and has the sweetest children.  Too bad we don't live closer!

Amanda--I really ended up liking the colors so much!  They actually go perfect with my own color scheme in my living room!  Check this out!

You're lucky I didn't just buy it back from you!

Hope you all have a Fabulous Monday!

My Etsy is Back!

One of the things I wanted to do before school started was to get my Etsy page back up and running...I did that yesterday and its a good thing because school starts...

TOMORROW.

So even though my free days will be gone, I still plan to keep producing work to sell on Etsy.  Please keep me in mind when you are shopping for gifts for others--or for yourself:-)

I also wanted to remind my followers and fans out there that I also do commission work...pretty much anything you need (painting, pottery, mixed media...abstract or realistic).  Just contact me through my blog, Etsy, or Facebook.  So if you already have ideas for Christmas presents, its never too early to start planning!

On a different subject...earlier on in the summer the girls in my small group at church decided they wanted to sign up for a class to paint pottery.  I volunteered to teach a class instead...that way they could actually make something and glaze it.  So we had two sessions...one where they made a slab platter and the other when they got to choose their own glazes and glaze their finished pieces.  I was so proud of the way they each turned out that I decided to put some pictures on my blog!

Keep in mind that none of these girls had prior experience in ceramics...they were AMAZING students. Wish all my high-school students were like them:-)

Happy Monday and don't forget to check out my Etsy page!

The Raspberry Beret

One of my closest friends, Sara, lives in Louisville, a small town in Mississippi.  She has recently (as in last Saturday) opened a consignment store--The Raspberry Beret (how cute!:-)  Before I show you pictures of her AMAZING set up, here are my favorite qualities about Sara:

1. She has a genuine love for serving
2. Her taste of interior decorating is unlike I have ever seen--eclectic mixed with vintage, antique, country cottage, BEAUTIFUL.
3. She sees beauty in what others may see as trash.
4. She is an incredibly hard worker.
5. She is one of the most humble people I've ever met.
6. She knows how to be resourceful. (Please teach me!)
7. She is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the out--a sincere follower of Christ.
8. Her husband is just as awesome--(Chad and Buster are really close friends too:-)

So the store started as an idea...then sure enough, it became a reality--I'm so proud of her determination and willingness to take these steps of faith!  I'm very thankful that she has chosen to set up a booth for my artwork as well.  Here are some pictures:

Here is my booth!  Thanks so much, Sara!
I thought this was adorable...what a great idea for a baby room.  An old mirror with a vintage curtain.

So anytime you're out in Louisville, make a visit to The Raspberry Beret--how could you not?

See you there!
